My 14 y/o son graduated from the intense two-day leadership program this weekend – we know it has made such a difference!

Feeling so grateful today for the incredible work being done by the YLA (Youth Leadership Authority) program. 💙
In a time when our teens are facing more pressure and uncertainty than ever, YLA is stepping up in a big way—offering mentorship, leadership training, real-world skills, and a strong sense of purpose. 🙌

I would like to share my experience with your wonderful program!
My son, Shane Jones, joined the YLA Program about 3 or 4 years ago. The changes in him were obvious and immediate. He developed a strong desire to improve his physical strength and capabilities as well as his character, and his Christian faith deepened. He looked forward excitedly and enthusiastically to each and every event.
Dropping him off the first time at Sunset Park for the 10-week training program, I decided to stay and watch what was going on. I loved it!!! There was intense physical activity with leaders challenging and pushing the teens. The Marines commanded the workout, strengthening the resolve of the youth to want to do their best, and they were actually bringing it out of them. After the intense workout, the “Pups” would gather together for a mentoring session. Invaluable!
One of my favorite memories is when Ms. Marie would gather the Pups/Eagles in a circle and give her own pep talk before the workout. She drilled into them that they all had potential they all could be leaders, they all could accomplish things they didn’t think possible!
One day Ms. Marie noticed I stayed for the sessions, and she asked me if I would like to volunteer. I said yes, and it has been such a wonderful blessing! A blessing to see the change in the Pups from the first day of the 10-week Leadership Training Program to the last day. WOW!! It was amazing, inspiring, and moving to see the theses teens reach goals they never thought possible, and to see the euphoria they showed having reached this accomplishment.
One of the classes that I hold clear to my heart is the Self-Care Class. It truly is a “Safe Place to Land”. It encourages them to open up and share their hopes, fears, and dreams, enabling them to feel comfortable sharing their life experiences and circumstances, whether positive or negative, and helping them to draw up a game plan of how to achieve their short and long-term goals. The leaders were extremely supportive and promised to help them through whatever they were going through, and that they would be only a phone call away if and when they needed support.
I encourage each parent or guardian of a Pup or Eagle to volunteer and experience the numerous blessings of being involved in this invaluable program. It is life changing!

My name is Felicia Ricafort, I am 17 years old, and a senior at Durango High School. During YLA’s A Safe Place to Land – The Retreat, I have received spiritual, personal, professional, and physical training. I have learned so much that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. The leadership abilities that I have gained over this past weekend will only help me soar in college and in the Air Force.
My name is Quincy Fisher. I am 15 years old and I go to FHS (Foothill High School). I received Marine and Fireman training. This retreat really made me think more about going into the military or fire department. I really appreciate this opportunity and definitely would love to see everyone again next year.
